WEST NILE LAUDED FOR HOSTING THOUSANDS OF REFUGEES

Rite Honorable Prime minster of Uganda Robinah Nabbanja has lauded west Nile people for their hospitality to the refugee community and hosting them in the country. West Nile region is the biggest refugee hosting region.

She made this remark during her visit in west Nile for the ground breaking ceremony of Koboko Yumbe Moyo road project held in Yumbe district this month. Nabbanja revealed that the fund for koboko Yumbe moyo road is a grant provided by World Bank in support for refugee hosting countries.

There are a number settlements opened up for refugee in west Nile district to host the refugee. These are Adjumani, Yumbe, obongi, madi Okollo, Koboko, Terego and Arua district.

The honorable prime minister says west Nile’s host of refugee has worn an award for the country. “I want to thank the people of west Nile for been hospitable to the refugee and coexisting with them, your gesture to the refugee has worn the country worldwide recognition for been the best hospitable in  African country.” Prime minister said. She added that Uganda earned a lot of credit for the way host asylum seekers from its neighbor.

Most of the refugee settled in west Nile came from south Sudan and DRC with Bidi Bidi settlement in Yumbe district been biggest in Africa.

The state minister for roads and works Musa Ecerwu Francis says the contribution of the region of hosting the refugee is exceptional. “If Yumbe which has the biggest settlement cost the land the refugee are sitting on in terms of money and charge the international community per month and year, How much will that amount? Min Ecweru asked.

Min. Ecweru said the contribution of Uganda far surpass all the support international communities are giving for hosting the refugee.  

Hon. Anyama William moyo district chairperson who is also the chairperson for west Nile development association WENDA commended the government for having best policy that allowed the country to host the asylum seekers. “We want to be grateful to our own people, because we are one of the biggest donors in the world, people who donated their land and resource to receive and host refugee community and Uganda is known for refugee because of west Nile.” Hon. Anyama said.
  
Currently Uganda hosts more than 1.5 million refugees from its neighboring countries.
