MOYO DISTRICT LEADERS CAUTION CONTRACTOR OF KOBOKO –YUMBE –MOYO DISTRICT AGAINST SHODDY WORKS.

Uganda national roads authority on the 25th /04/2024 officially introduced the contractor, consultant and civil engineering team to the stakeholders in Moyo district ahead of the start of the upgrading works on the Koboko –yumbe –Moyo road.

On September 10, 2020, the World Bank directors approved a grant of 130.8 $ (shs 496 billion) to ease the movement of goods and people in Koboko, Yumbe and Moyo districts which hosts refugees.

The construction works will be under taken by Chongqin international construction company. While in a meeting with the team, the leaders emphasized the need for quality assurance from the contractor, UNRA and value for money in the project.

Ms. Jessica Onyiritho the Chief Administrative Officer Moyo district explained that receiving the team on ground is a sign of hope that the roads will finally be upgraded calling for cooperation and quality assurance from the contractor. “Am really grateful to the government that we are finally seeing results  but there are things that we request from you, please cooperate with us so that we can move together, sometimes we feel really disappointed when we see people speaking different languages working in the area  instead of the locals”. Onyiritho said.

Mr. Williams Anyama the lc5 chairperson Moyo district in his speech appreciated the government for delivering on its commitment which has been long awaited that is to see that the welfare of the people of west Nile is improved. “We thought that we would die  before seeing tarmac road but by the grace of God and good leadership, the commitment is being delivered  here we also pray the laropi bridge is accomplished in order to make a complete circle”. The chairman added. He also requested UNRA to finalize the compensation process of the affected persons, though it shouldn’t affect the commencement of the works that will provide jobs for the local community in the three districts of Moyo, Koboko and Yumbe.

The Resident District Commissioner Moyo Mr. Gore Goffin narrated that with the level of expertise involved in the project, there should be quality work in the project.

Eng. Alex Otim the project manager for koboko -yumbe -Moyo road responding to the issues in the letter presented by the district chairperson, pointed that the contractor has no escape root because the contract has the details of specifications that will be followed and that on the recruitment 60 percent of local content shall be considered .

The works on the road is expected to commence in May with the official launch on the 16.
